Acclaimed satirists to speak at CU-Boulder Oct. 6
Four of today’s most acclaimed satirists, Megan Amram, Kevin Avery, Aasif Mandvi and Scott Dikkers, come together for a one-of-a-kind discussion on the state of comedy on Oct. 6 at CU-Boulder’s Macky Auditorium Concert Hall. The event, titled The State of Satire, is presented by the Distinguished Speakers Board.
Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the event will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $2 for CU-Boulder students with a valid Buff OneCard and $10 for community members. Student tickets will be available starting Sept. 21 on the first floor of the University Memorial Center (UMC) at the Distinguished Speakers Board table, Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Community tickets will be available online at macky.colorado.edu starting Sept. 21. There will be a Q&A portion with the audience following the event.
The panel will be moderated by Dikkers, founding editor of The Onion. He will be joined by Mandvi of "The Daily Show," "Halal in the Family" and HBO's "The Brink"; Avery, writer for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” and co-host of award-winning podcast "Denzel Washington is the Greatest Actor of All Time Period"; and Amram, writer for "Parks and Recreation," "Children’s Hospital," and "Silicon Valley" and author of "Science…for Her!." The discussion will center on how satire shapes public discourse today. The panelists also will evaluate the current impact of social media and offer some insights on the future of comedy.
