Engineering students at the University of Colorado Boulder are gearing up for a week of intensive activity April 19-23 when they will celebrate Engineering Days and display hands-on design projects at two Design Expos.

Engineering Days is an annual celebration of the engineering profession organized by the University of Colorado Engineering Council and various student honor societies. Activities include a water rocket launch, high school and college egg drops, a carnival and other fun activities for students.

One of the highlights of E-Days is the college egg drop, which will be held Thursday, April 21, starting at 1 p.m. on the west side of the Engineering Center. Students will compete for awards by creating various contraptions to protect a raw egg when dropped from the eight-story office tower.

On Friday, April 22, the Mechanical Engineering Capstone Design Expo will be open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the University Memorial Center's Glenn Miller Ballroom. Two dozen senior and graduate design teams in mechanical engineering will display their yearlong industry-sponsored projects, which range from biomedical engineering to new energy solutions. The Shell Eco-marathon car will be among the projects displayed.

The week's activities continue on Saturday, April 23, with the Engineering Design Expo, showcasing about 60 team projects by engineering undergraduates, from freshmen to seniors. The collegewide Design Expo is open to the community from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, located at Colorado Avenue and Regent Drive.

Student projects will be set up both inside and outside the ITL Laboratory, and will include assistive technology for people with disabilities, new energy solutions, computer science innovations and much more.
