The University of Colorado at Boulder will offer art and museum exhibits as well as dance and musical performances this summer in communities from Colorados western slope to its eastern plains.
Now in its 10th year, CU-Boulders popular outreach program, "CU This Summer," will provide cultural and artistic presentations in 14 Colorado cities and towns.
"CU This Summer" is hosted by communities across Colorado. Participating this year are Aspen, Brighton, Canon City, Carbondale, Cheyenne Wells, Cortez, Durango, Frisco, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Lamar, Montrose, Pueblo and Sterling.
An estimated 350,000 people have attended "CU This Summer" events in 65 communities since 1989.
CU President John C. Buechner and CU-Boulder Chancellor Richard L. Byyny believe that the "CU This Summer" program is an example of the innovative approach to learning and community outreach that is envisioned by CUs Total Learning Environment initiative.
"The University of Colorado values this unique opportunity to work in partnership with Colorado communities to bring this award-winning cultural outreach program to the citizens of our state," Buechner said.
Exhibits, which include artworks from the state-owned Colorado Collection -- housed in the CU Art Galleries -- and from the CU Museum, will be on display from late May or early June through late August in Brighton, Canon City, Cheyenne Wells, Cortez, Frisco, Lamar, Montrose and Sterling.
The CU-Boulder Lyric Theatre for Children will perform and present workshops in schools in Aspen, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction and Pueblo the week of May 18.
In addition, CU-Boulder's Department of Theatre and Dance will give dance performances and classes in Cortez, Durango and Montrose during the first two weeks of June.
The "CU This Summer" interdisciplinary arts program features outreach efforts from the theatre and dance and fine arts departments in CU-Boulders College of Arts and Sciences as well as programs from the Graduate School and College of Music.
Support also was provided by the CU-Boulder Division of Continuing Education, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Office of Community Relations and the Office of Public Relations.
