Studio 5: Senior Project
Studio 5: Senior Project (THTR 4193) is the culminating course in the BFA Acting major. It provides an opportunity for you to undertake a self-devised project in which to apply your craft.
Your Studio 5 project should:
- Involve self-initiative
- Involve some kind of collaboration with fellow BFA actors
- Result in a public exhibition of the completed work
Brainstorm and Develop Your Idea
Please approach one of the four BFA Acting faculty members to advise you throughout your project. You must secure a BFA Acting faculty advisor before you can submit your Senior Project proposal.
Get Ready to Propose Your Project
- Anticipate your performance or exhibition dates with your faculty advisor's availability in mind. You should coordinate this with their schedule, to be sure that they can attend or view your completed work.
- Determine whether you would like to seek any production resources from the Department of Theatre & Dance. This includes the department's performance venues, costumes, props, lighting, projection, sound, technical equipment, et al. You must determine this before you will be allowed to submit your project proposal.
- The department does not have the available personnel to assign you designers or technicians for your project. You are responsible for identifying these collaborators, who will need to be approved by Production Coordinator, Connie Lane. If you do not know any designers or technicians, Connie may be able to suggest some people to you.
- Consolidate your script and other supporting materials for your project into a file that is smaller than 10 MB. For free computer help with your files, visit the Office of Information Technology at their campus IT Service Centers, online at colorado.edu/oit, by e-mail at help@colorado.edu, and by phone at 303-735-HELP.
- Draft an essay of at least 250 words that describes what you hope to accomplish with your Senior Project.
- What expectations do you have for your project?
- How do you think the project will contribute to and enhance your BFA Acting curriculum?
- How do you think you will involve your BFA classmates in your project?
- How and when do you intend to present a public exhibition of your project?
Submit Your Proposal Form Online
Every Studio 5 project requires that the proposal form be completed. Please note that if you don't submit your proposal at least three months before your performance, then the department's production resources are likely to be unavailable.
- When you’re ready to submit your proposal, enter your information and select your BFA Acting faculty advisor from the drop-down below
- As you’re completing your online proposal form, you can click "Other Actions" in the upper-right corner of the DocuSign website, and select "Finish Later" from the drop-down menu
- After you complete your proposal, DocuSign will automatically forward it to your BFA Acting faculty advisor for their approval. DocuSign will notify you after your advisor has signed your proposal
- If you indicate that you'd like to seek production resources from the department, then Docusign will automatically forward your proposal from your advisor to Connie Lane. After Connie reviews your proposal, she'll e-mail you to schedule a consultation to discuss your project

You will be responsible for:
- Reserving rehearsal space in the building using CU’s online scheduling system
