On Stand Up for Climate Change: Using the Power of Humor to Start the Conversation, Max Boykoff and Beth Osnes will share research that they are doing (with professors Phaedra Pezzullo and Rebecca Safran) on Creative Climate Communication through a CU Boulder project called Inside the Greenhouse. Beth and Max will focus on their work through comedy/humor to creatively communicate about climate change.

Max Boykoff
Maxwell Boykoff is the director of the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research, which is part of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at CU Boulder. He also is an associate professor in the Environmental Studies program and is adjunct faculty in the Geography Department. In addition, Max is a senior visiting research associate in the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of California-Santa Cruz and Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology from The Ohio State University.
Max has ongoing interests in cultural politics and environmental governance, science and environmental communications, science-policy interactions, political economy and the environment, and climate adaptation He has experience working in North America, Central America, South Asia, Oceania and Europe, and is a co-author and editor of seven books and edited volumes, along with over fifty articles and book chapters.
Beth Osnes
Beth Osnes is an associate professor of Theatre and Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado. As co-director of Inside the Greenhouse, an initiative for creative communication on climate, she toured an original musical Shine to Rockefeller Foundation 100 Resilient Cities locations to facilitate youth voices in resilience planning, and published the book Performance for Resilience: Engaging Youth on Energy and Climate through Music, Movement, and Theatre. Open source materials for Shine are available through the Climate Literacy & Energy Awareness Network. As co-founder of SPEAK, she recently published a curriculum for vocal empowerment for young women’s civic voices that is evidence-based with Dr. Chelsea Hackett and the MAIA Impact School in Guatemala. Her book Theatre for Women’s Participation in Sustainable Development includes her work specific to gender equity in Panama, Guatemala, India, Nicaragua and the Navajo Nation. She is featured in the award-winning documentary Mother: Caring for 7 Billion.
