We are here to support the well-being and safety of our campus community members who experience unfortunate and devastating events.
Support and advocacy resources are available to students, graduate students, faculty and staff who were impacted by the apartment complex fire at 2300 Pearl Street on Oct. 19, 2021. As a member of the CU Boulder family, we are here to support you in any way that we can.

If you are interested in helping those impacted by the apartment complex fire, consider donating to the Student and Faculty and Staff Emergency Funds below. These funds are used to support students, staff and/or faculty in emergency situations.

Student Emergency Fund
The Student Emergency Fund was created to provide support for CU Boulder students who are experiencing a crisis that could adversely affect their semester.
Academic support email template
If you have been affected by the Pearl Street apartment fire, you can reach out to Student Support and Case Management (SSCM) for assistance. SSCM can provide an email template to use in communicating with your instructors about your situation.
SSCM provides support to students throughout their college career and helps them achieve their academic and personal goals. Case managers assist students to reduce the adverse impact of challenging situations through connection with campus partners, community resources and support systems, encouraging success through individualized planning.
Campus support resources
Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) can be reached at 303-492-2277 (24/7 phone line). CAPS provides free, confidential mental health services for students in Colorado to address a variety of concerns such as academics, anxiety, body image, depression, relationships, substance use and more. Please call 303-492-2277 and follow the instructions on the voicemail. CAPS is available Monday–Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) can be reached at 303-492-8855 (24/7 phone line). Services are offered both virtually and in person on campus. After-hours support is also available at 303-492-8855; press menu option 2. OVA provides free, confidential counseling, advocacy, information and referrals for all CU community members, including undergrad and graduate students, staff and faculty who have experienced traumatic or life-disruptive events. Please call 303-492-8855 to set up an appointment or ask questions about OVA services. Please note when we return calls they will usually be coming from a blocked or restricted number.

Food assistance
- Students can visit the Buff Pantry in the UMC by appointment.
- View the schedule of Mobile Food Pantries hosted by the Basic Needs Center.
- If you need a meal today or tomorrow, please reach out to the Dean of Students office at deanofstudents@colorado.edu or 303-492-9048.
Smoke and health resources
Students can make an appointment with Medical Services or call the 24/7 Nurseline at 303-492-5101 for advice and guidance.
Bookstore
If you need assistance with access to course materials or have questions about rental textbooks from the CU Book Store, please email assist@cubookstore.com
Temporary accommodations
Disability Services can provide temporary accommodations for students in need. Temporary medical conditions (TMCI) such as injuries, surgeries, or acute illnesses may not qualify as permanent disabling conditions. However, Disability Services does provide assistance to students and guidance on working with a temporary medical condition while attending CU Boulder and we’d be happy to meet with you to discuss further.

Student Legal Services
Students can make an appointment with Student Legal Services to help navigate leasing, insurance, and other legal concerns that arise from the fire. You can call them at 303-492-6813 or stop by the UMC 311.

Staff and Faculty Emergency Fund
The Staff and Faculty Emergency Fund provides support for CU Boulder staff and faculty who are experiencing a crisis that could adversely affect them and their families as they serve the campus and our students.

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) can be reached at 303-492-3020. FSAP is offering counseling and consulting services in-person and via telehealth. Please contact FSAP if you would like to schedule an appointment, and an FSAP counselor will reach out to you within 24 hours.

Real Help Hotline
The Real Help Hotline gives you access to professional counselors who can offer assistance finding local resources or provide immediate crisis counseling. It’s a free and confidential service and it’s available 24/7. The service is available to all members covered under any of CU’s medical insurance plans. The number to call is (833) 533-CHAT (2428).
Emergency leave time
The university has provided guidance for leave guidelines for classified, university staff and research faculty. Review leave guidance in the event of a natural disaster or local emergency.
