Enshin Karate 

Our Enshin Karate class enables participants to convert defense into offense by utilizing blocks, kicks and punches. This form of karate stresses the development of flexibility, power and speed with emphasis on stretching, conditioning and practice.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 

Unlike many martial arts, Jiu Jitsu doesn’t rely on size or strength. It focuses on leverage and joint manipulation. Our Level I course teaches participants the basics of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Our Level II course allows participants to fine tune what they have learned in Level I and have more practice time. Brian Scott is the instructor for both classes. He is an international champion, multi-national and state title holder in Jiu Jitsu.

Muay Thai  

Our Muay Thai kickboxing class is perfect for beginners and advanced students alike. This class is led by Brian Scott, an undefeated Muay Thai kickboxer. Muay Thai uses boxing, elbow strikes, knee strikes and kicks as weapons. Level I provides a foundation for practicing Muay Thai, while Level II builds on the concepts covered in the Level I course, so participants can elevate their skills.

Women's Self Defense

Learn empowering and effective verbal and physical skills designed to increase your safety and confidence in a wide range of real-life scenarios including assault and sexual violence involving intimate partners, dates, acquaintances and strangers. This class involves interactive discussion and hands-on practice, so participants can increase their awareness of potential threats, enhance strong verbal and physical boundaries and implement techniques for managing fear and stress. Physical skills will include basic but highly effective techniques for defense in all situations. *This class is intended for those who identify as women. Rec Center membership required (day pass, punch card or monthly membership).

Eskrima 

Doce Pares Eskrima is the weapons art of Filipino Stick Fighting.  This is a modern style of weaponry and it incorporates the use of single stick, double stick and empty hand techniques, taught through striking and defending partner drills in a safe and friendly manner.  Our Eskrima class is perfect for beginners and advanced students.  This class is led by 5 time World Champion Guro Brian Scott of the Wolchek Academy of Martial Arts.  This system provides a comprehensive style that promotes fitness and self-defense and it is extremely fun. *Eskrima participants must purchase a fighting sticks, available through the instructor.

Kendo

The Japanese art of fencing called Kendo, meaning "the way" (do) "of the sword" (ken), is the oldest form of martial art in Japan. Through it's long history and cultural roots, the art of Kendo expresses itself not just as purely physical power, but as a deep mental training and a philosophical outlook on everyday life.

Shotokan Karate 

Shotokan Karate is one of the oldest forms of traditional Okinawan / Japanese martial arts still in practice today. This class will present traditional forms and techniques that are accessible to all participants.

Aikido

Aikido is a Japanese martial art and the highest form of non-violent self defense in which the defender joins forces with their attacker to neutralize the attack without injury to either.  It is a collaborative discipline for training mind, body and spirit in a unified whole, creating harmony and justice out of violence.  The training is rigorous yet relaxed, with an emphasis on posture, balance, and spiral movement. Class will be located in the Medium Group Fitness Studio.
