Transportation Services receives and distributes all vehicle registrations, as well as emissions due notifications.  All fleet vehicles are set on the same yearly expiration of October. Transportation Services will annually provide instructions for the emissions and registration renewal.

Drivers of University of Colorado vehicles must ensure that the following items are kept in the University vehicle that they drive at all times:

  • Current registration
  • Vehicle packet (proof of insurance, instructions,
  • accident report form, fuel card)

Citations received because of expired documents are the responsibility of the driver and cannot be paid with university funds.

The Emissions Procedure

University of Colorado vehicles that are due for emissions will receive notice from the Department of Revenue. A vehicles emission requirements vary based on the vehicle year, and can be as often as yearly, on some older vehicles.  If your vehicle is due for emissions, a notice will be sent to the vehicle coordinator with information, locations and instructions.

The department(s) of the respective vehicles that are notified are required to have an emissions test completed and obtain a “Vehicle Inspection Report.” It is the department’s responsibility to have the emissions test performed when required, and return the original report to Transportation Services.

Registration Renewal

Transportation Services annually receives the updated registrations for all vehicles for CU Boulder, Anschutz and UCD campuses.  The registrations are distributed to the Director, Dean or Chair of the speedtype that has the university vehicle assigned to it.  They are sent the registrations, with updated insurance cards, and instructions for distribution to their respective vehicles.
