PLC Service Initiatives

PLC students strengthen their communities through a commitment to service. We believe acting with humility and kindness drives positive change and inspires empathetic, compassionate leadership.

Each PLC scholar must provide 10 hours of service each year in the program, totalling 40 hours of meaningful, philanthropic service.

Of your 10 hours of service each academic year - 3 of the hours must be in the following areas:

  • Volunteer at an official PLC event (orientation, square dance, interviews, etc.)
  • Volunteer with one of PLC's service partners - PBn'Luvin, CU Health and Wellness, Active Minds, Family Learning Center
  • Volunteer as a representative of PLC at one of our service days - Buffalo Bicycle Classic, Day of Service.

The other 7 hours can be service done with any organization on campus or in the Boulder/Denver community during the academic year. You must provide proof of your service to have it counted toward the requirement (signed off hours by supervisor).

This organization's mission is to feed the homeless patrons of Boulder while spending time and love with them as well. People who are down and out need social interaction and a sense that they matter - they are people worth visiting and learning about. Each service shift starts at 1:00 pm. Meets at CU’s Wesley Chapel. Students prepare food, then walk down to the Boulder Creek to serve many of our community’s “visible” homeless. While this is sponsored by Wesley Fellowship (a progressive, LGBTQ-friendly, Christian campus ministry sponsored by the United Methodist Church), this is not a “churchy” thing. It’s for people who give a damn and want to roll up their sleeves to make a difference.

Michael Classey is the team leader for the PB N' Luvin partnership. Once you sign up, you are committing to those hours of service. If you need to be absent for an unforeseen circumstance, you must find a replacement for your open spot.
