The Department’s focus is interdisciplinary research, as is reflected in the joint degree and certificate programs it offers. PhD students with a focus on linguistic cognition may complete the joint PhD in Linguistics and Cognitive Science. Students working toward the MA degree have the opportunity to earn the Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Science or the Human Language Technology (HLT) certificate. In addition, the Department offers an MS in Computational Linguistics, Analytics, Search and Informatics (CLASIC). Both PhD and MA students with research interests in sociocultural linguistics have the opportunity to earn a graduate certificate in Culture, Language and Social Practice.
