Student Hourly Positions in Linguistics

The Department of Linguistics hires student hourly employees for a variety of purposes. Some faculty hire students to support research activities or for assistance with some courses. Linguistics may also hire students to support the administration of the academic programs. If you are a CU student and interested in working for the Linguistics Department, positions will be posted when they are available.

Current Student Job Opportunities

The Linguistics Department is looking for assistance with the undergraduate LURA awards this year. The LURA awards are our Linguistics Undergraduate Research Awards. Students are nominated by faculty and TAs for having developed particularly thought-provoking projects in an undergraduate class.  We normally have around 15 student nominees per year; I will be sending out announcements of the nominations to students by February 15. To receive the award after their nomination, students work with their nominator to write a blog post of up to 800 words (short!) describing their topic and investigation. The blog posts will be due April 1st. We will then post the award-winning blogs on our linguistics website.

The department is able to offer a graduate student $22.00 an hour for a total of 30 hours (or $660) to assist with getting these blogs to the finish line. This position involves (1) communicating with the nominees by sending follow up emails to get them to meet submission deadlines by providing the requested materials, (2) editing the submissions for errors and overall good reading, (3) putting the blogs into our style sheet before sending to our web assistant Zhiyong, who will upload them to the website, and (4) making sure the finished online product looks great! You and Zhiyong will work together to get these released by graduation in May.  Examples of last year's LURA 2022 awards can be found here on our website, if you’d like to take a look at the end product.
