CLASIC student Shiyue Hu and Prof. Yanjun Gao (Anschutz campus) are exploring whether large language models (LLMs) can perform temporal reasoning over multi-day electronic health records (EHRs), reading longer context and tracking how a patient’s condition evolves over time to support diagnosis and outcome prediction. 
The study provides a clearer roadmap for how to design LLM systems that move beyond surface-level text integration toward trustworthy, temporally aware decision support in healthcare.
