Welcome Students, Faculty, and Staff!
Green Labs Core is a network of shared equipment managed by the Shared Equipment Coordinator in the Green Labs Program, which is an effort of the Environmental Center. Our goal is to connect students, faculty, and staff across campus to shared resources that facilitate science!
The Green Labs Core currently has established collaborations with EBIO and MCDB to manage a collection of equipment in the Ramaley and Porter buildings. Shared labs and instruments under the Green Labs Core are open for use to all researchers across campus, regardless of department. Training is required for use of Green Labs Core equipment, which we will provide upon request.
- Send the Shared Equipment Coordinator an email for any instrument you’re looking to gain access to.
- The Shared Equipment Coordinator will do all the work to track down the instrument(s) you need, request access on your behalf, and set up training.
- For Graduate students: Access to Green Labs Core resources drastically expands the type of research you can perform, no longer limiting you to the equipment within your PI's lab.
- For Instructors: Gain access to small, medium and high end equipment for students in your science courses.
- Shared labs make available a wide range of general and specialized instruments.
- When your lab is ready to nominate an instrument for sharing, contact the Shared Equipment Coordinator.
- The Shared Equipment Coordinator will assess nominated equipment for inclusion in the Green Labs Core program and pick up suitable instruments or work with you to arrange usage of shared equipment that remains in your lab space.
- Each year, the Green Labs Core organizes for pipette calibration techs to come to campus to complete hundreds of pipette calibrations (~400 pipettes/year) .
- Because of this bulk calibration, each pipette calibration is discounted.
- This page presents several local equipment repair companies.
- Not sure if a resource or service exists on campus, ask the Green Labs Core and get an answer.
Please acknowledge the Green Labs Core (RRID: SCR_019302) in publications, on posters, or in talks if you use any shared equipment managed by the program. Please include the Green Labs Core RRID (RRID: SCR_019302) and the grant numbers for any equipment funded through instrumentation grants in your acknowledgements. This is a requirement from the funding agencies and is crucial for future funding of the shared equipment program.
For a detailed explanation of why acknowledgments are so important for the continued function of core facilities please see the Acknowledgements page on the Biochemistry Shared Instruments Pool (SIP) website.
