History of the Green Labs Shared Equipment Core

The Green Labs Core is based on a model, known as the BioCore, that ran for several years as a collaboration between Green Labs, EBIO, MCDB, and IPHY. The BioCore was a finalist for Innovation & Efficiency Award at CU Boulder. In May of 2018, the BioCore was started to begin a small- to medium-sized equipment sharing program between the MCDB, EBIO and IPHY departments. Funding originally came from an Innovation Buffs grant, awarded by CU Vice Chancelor and COO Kelly Fox.

Accomplishments of the BioCore Program

At its peak, the BioCore managed 1,770 ft2 of shared laboratory space among two shared labs, as well as a host of other shared equipment that remained in shared spaces and individual faculty labs.

Future of the Green Labs Core

Under the banner of the Green Labs Core, our reinvigorated program now aims to expand its reach to provide freely accessible equipment to students, faculty, and staff campus-wide. We are working on establishing collaborations to manage shared equipment with multiple departments, based on the previous success of the BioCore model.
