Professor at IBG (1988–2026)

In Memoriam. Tom Johnson, who died in 2026, helped establish the genetics of aging as a major field of research. Using C. elegans and mouse models, he identified longevity mutants and biological pathways influencing lifespan. During his many years at CU Boulder and IBG, he also mentored generations of researchers.

Research Interests:
Genetics dissection of the longevity-enhancing properties of dietary restriction in both the nematode worm and in the mouse. Studies of stochasticity in longevity and rate of aging in the nematode. Predictions of longevity.
