Follow these health and safety tips

  • Stretch or walk during long flights to prevent blood clots
  • Wash hands often or use hand sanitizer to avoid illness and diarrhea
  • Leave expensive clothing, jewelry, and electronics at home
  • If confronted, put your personal safety first: remain calm, and give up replaceable items (like a passport)
  • Use caution in crowded areas where robberies may be common
  • Stick to well-lit main roads whenever possible
  • Use condoms with all partners to minimize STI risk
  • Stay aware of your surroundings, especially if consuming alcohol
  • Use only registered, well-signed taxis and transportation services

After your trip

Ask your provider which medical considerations apply:

  • Complete any vaccination series as needed
  • See your provider for a TB test three months after you return
  • If you were in a country with malaria risk and develop a fever, seek medical attention immediately
