I have had the opportunity to work in many different facets of Geology over the years, including interpreting subsurface structures from geophysical anomalies, field mapping stratigraphic sequences of our local Cretaceous marine limestone, working in oil and gas exploration, drilling ice cores on the Greenland Ice Sheet, exploring impacts of climate variability on human settlements and human history in the North Atlantic, and bringing the fascinating world of Earth and Sustainability/Resilience Studies to students at the University of Colorado. My interests lie in understanding earth processes that impact humans, human actions that impact the Earth System, and how human beings embrace behavioral change. I love teaching Geology and Earth System Science because it is an opportunity to open new eyes and minds to the wonder that surrounds us and also to offer a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Earth that we depend on. I am very interested in moving our campus in the direction of “walking the talk” of Sustainability and Resilience and have been active in creating new courses for all of us to be more prepared to meet the challenges of this century. Other interests include understanding learning styles, mentoring, hiking, yoga, xeriscaping, and supporting the dreams of my two kids.
