Hello and welcome to the Center for Humanities and the Arts,
The Center for Humanities and the Arts (CHA) attempts to do for the humanities and arts what CU's research institutes are doing for the sciences: support faculty and graduate students in new research, create collaborations across departments, incubate new forms of graduate teaching and training, and reach out to the broader community.
The CHA offers annual fellowships and grants to faculty and graduate students, supports interdisciplinary initiatives, co-sponsors events in departments across campus, and brings prominent humanists and artists to campus for public lectures, workshops, and panel discussions.
CHA seeks to leverage the high quality of our faculty to recruit and retain the most promising graduate students in the humanities and arts. Joint recruitment events, support for graduate student-led speaker series, dissertation and professionalization workshops, and the development of trans-departmental seminars create an environment of scholarly curiosity and mutual intellectual appreciation.
A great public university like CU Boulder is sustained by the support of the people of Colorado and beyond. The humanities and the arts have a special role to play in our attempt to reach out to our constituency, for they are not only the objects of scholar study and practice on campus, but also shape our common reservoir of ideas, experiences, and aspirations. With the help of its distinguished Advisory Board, the CHA seeks to organize events in which faculty, students, and the community can exchange ideas and learn from one another.
The Center for Humanities and the Arts at the University of Colorado Boulder belongs to the communities it serves. We invite all of you – faculty, students, and members of the public – to visit us in beautiful Macky Auditorium and to bring us your ideas.
