ANDing is not a new concept here. For decades, students have chased after their ambitions and interests with fervor and determination. Discover how ANDING left an impact on these graduates and the world around them. 

  1. 1918

    Luciel Berkeley Buchanan (Ger'18)

    Meet the first Black woman to graduate from CU Boulder. Born to parents who were once enslaved, Luciel grew up in Denver’s Barnum neighborhood, where her family became the area’s very first Black property owners. 

  2. 1964

    Billy Kid (Econ'69)

    At the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, Billy Kidd became the first U.S. man to win an Olympic alpine skiing medal, a silver in the slalom. Six years later, he became the first American man to win a World Championship even in the Alpine combined. 

  3. 1989

    Tom Cech

    As the head of the biochemistry lab in Boulder, chemist Tom Cech brought CU its first Nobel Prize through his groundbreaking discovery of catalytic properties of RNA. His research found that RN could transmit instructions and even speed up to the necessary reactions.
