Visiting Artist Lecture: Tomashi Jackson

Location: Visual Arts Complex 1B20 Auditorium (CU Boulder campus, 1085 18th Street, Boulder, CO 80302)

Tomashi Jackson creates vibrant research-driven works in the mediums of paintings, printmaking, video, photography, fiber, and sculpture. Influenced by California muralist traditions reflecting peoples’ movements of the 1950’s-1990’s, her often immersive work scrutinizes the mechanics of societal power and recognizes the triumphs for the empowerment of communities of color.

Tomashi Jackson (born 1980 in Houston, Texas) was raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale School of Art in 2016, her Master of Science in Art, Culture and Technology from the MIT School of Architecture and Planning in 2012, and her BFA from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 2010. Jackson's work has been included in recent solo exhibitions at the Parrish Art Museum, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, and the Wexner Center for the Arts. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions including the Off the Record at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (2021), the 2019 Whitney Biennial, and In the Abstract at MASS MoCA (2017). Jackson's artworks are in numerous museum collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the Pérez Art Museum in Miami.

J. Benjamin Burney the VP of The MBAA JEDI Board is starting a new speaker series featuring People of Color who are experts in their industries. Our first panel discussion will feature professionals in Cannabis Industry from Denver Colorado. Our goal is that through these conversations we will unearth stories, inspire change, and build bridges between industry and academia where Pioneers of Color can share insights for success in business and beyond.

Bachelor of Fine Arts Application Deadline

Application deadline: October 15, 2023

The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree program offers advanced studio study to a limited number of highly motivated and talented students. The BFA student may choose one area of studio emphasis or an interdisciplinary focus where two or three studio areas are represented. Admission will be limited not only in terms of capacity but also to ensure the type of record, motivation and the passing of a portfolio review.

Artist-in-Residence Opportunity

Children's Museum of Denver

A truly special, exclusive art opportunity. Not only do professional Colorado artists come to work in the Museum and create beautiful art, but visiting guests of all ages contribute and collaborate.

The program is open to artists working in a variety of media, including sculpture, illustration, paints or textiles. Artists set up shop in The Art Studio and work for 2-3 months on a project to install at the Museum. Children and adults alike are invited to be part of this amazing program and witness the impact your creativity can make in the world!
