1. Context and Motivation: Did the student provide an adequate review of prior work in the field and clearly motivate how their project fits within or advances that context? Please comment on whether they demonstrated understanding of the broader research area, identified a gap or open question, and justified the project’s relevance.

2. Problem Definition and Methodological Clarity: Was the research problem clearly defined, and were the mathematical or computational methods described with appropriate precision and depth for Year 2 APPM PhDs? Indicate whether the talk conveyed both the intuition and technical details behind the approach (e.g., equations, algorithms, or modeling assumptions), and whether these were appropriate for the problem.

3. Progress and Interpretation: Did the student make adequate progress toward addressing their stated research goal, and were the results interpreted thoughtfully in relation to the problem and broader field?
