Abstract: 

Area preserving maps are characterized by mixed phase space in which “islands” of regular motion are surrounded by a chaotic “sea”.  “Sticking” of trajectories in the chaotic sea to the boundary of the regular islands has been investigated especially in such systems which exhibit self-similar phase space. In this progress report I will describe developing a statistical description of these systems. observables are calculated using ensemble averaging in order to investigate the behavior of systems in cases where fine tuning of parameters can not be obtained.
