Abstract:
Anisotropic diffusion is a difficult problem to solve numerically, particularly on unstructured meshes or if the angle of anisotropy is not aligned with the mesh. In this talk I will discuss why this is difficult, specifically for multigrid-type solvers, and look at the limitations of a current state-of-the-art root node smoothed aggregation routine. I will then introduce a new perspective on root node smoothed aggregation to address these limitations, and provide an initial theoretical result on convergence.
