Complex/Dynamical Systems Seminar - Linda Moniz

What can you discover about a Dynamical System using a computer?

This talk will cover several methods of dynamical system discovery.   The first concerns time-delay embedding of observed data, with an in-depth discussion of the continuity test.  We use the continuity test both to create a time-delay embedding and to investigate properties of those reconstructions.   I will also talk briefly about the use of a computer to discover, up to epsilon-closeness, certain types of invariant sets when the closed form of a dynamical system is known and the system is subject to mild restrictions.     I will then talk about two applications.  The first is  flu prediction using the method of Analogues, an old method  that can be made new by the application of newer information about flu transmission.  The second is new research on the use of the Continuity test to discover hidden adulteration in images.
