Tutors
In addition to the below for-hire tutors, the Academic Success and Achievement Program (ASAP) on the CU Boulder campus provides free tutoring in a variety of subjects for all first-year students and all students who live in on-campus housing. The Student Academic Success Center (SASC) also provides tutors for CU students who are participating in the McNeill or TRiO SSS programs.
The Anderson Language and Technology Center (ALTEC) is an additional resource for language students. ALTEC hosts a catalog of films, books and other language learning materials, online language learning exercises, information about digital writing methods and career resources for those looking to utilize their acquired language skills.
Please note: Tutors are not allowed to aid ALC students with their class compositions. The University of Colorado does not compensate anyone listed here for their services. Students must make arrangements with the tutor to cover fees.

Client Testimonial: "Our daughter is 14 and is on the autism spectrum but she loves learning languages. She's never had any formal language lessons until Isaac agreed to take her on as a tutee. Isaac has been a wonderful tutor. Of course the lessons have been virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Isaac is always timely and prepared for each weekly hour-long lesson. He does a super job of engaging and teaching our daughter; she really looks forward to every lesson and she is learning to speak, read and write Japanese. We recommend Isaac as a tutor without reservation. " - M.M.
"My son received tutoring support from Isaac during his second year of Japanese at Boulder High School. Isaac work with my son for over a semester. While my son was an A student during his first year of Japanese, he was challenged by the expansion of the content during his second year of Japanese, and that is where Isaac played a significant role in helping my son reinforce his previous knowledge, improve his ability to retain new content, and held him to task in working on writing and speaking skills. Isaac’s patience and encouragement gave my son confidence and motivation, not to mention academic reward and a renewed joy of learning Japanese. I highly recommend Isaac." - M.S.
"Isaac was a great tutor! He organized ways to efficiently use our time in order for me to get the best out of our tutoring sessions while still learning the material effectively. He made concepts easily understandable by breaking them down while also giving me the opportunity to practice what I’d learned through accessible resources. Isaac was very easy to work with and incredibly patient. He made sure to write out notes in a notebook during the appointment in order to give examples and point out major concepts that were very useful to take a picture of. Isaac helped me learn much more material beyond the class I was taking and I improved in the language much faster! He encouraged me to continue working hard and provided me with resources that I’ll be able to continue using. I’m very happy I was able to have him as a tutor and highly recommend him to others! :)" - A.R.
"Isaac and I began working together in May of this year. He created a personalized training curriculum tailored to my personal & professional requirements. As a tutor, Isaac is knowledgeable not only in the languages themselves but how to teach them to those who are not fluent. He struck a delicate balance between instruction and exploration, allowing me as a student to struggle just enough to create impressionable learning experiences. It is also worth commenting on Isaac’s flexibility with different instruction methods and schedules as I frequently traveled to Asia during our course work." - M.C.
"Isaac was an amazing mentor and guide to Miles over the past year and a half. He really gave him a greater depth of understanding about the language of Japanese, but perhaps even more significantly imbued Miles with a passion for contextualizing the language within the Japanese culture in a way that really made the language come to life. Isaac created a supportive and encouraging learning atmosphere while still able to make the curriculum rigorous, in fact so much so that Miles was able to get credit for a year of high school level work on the language simply through their tutoring program. I can't say enough about what a gift it was to have Isaac as Miles' tutor. He helped Miles connect to so much joy and confidence with Japanese language and culture that Miles has now chosen to attend college in Tokyo at Temple University Japan! This is something he never would have dreamed of before beginning the tutoring but Isaac encouraged this and helped Miles believe he could do it." - K.S.
