This FTEP summer institute has been an extremely valuable and thought-provoking experience! Corey, Mike, and Mary Ann, and all the guest speakers provided us with a week filled with valuable information and advice. Thank you all so much!
I especially enjoyed the time for discussion and the hands-on exercises using the technology to which we’d been introduced. This format allowed for substantial interaction with the instructors. I also found it very helpful to read and discuss the book chapters (“How Learning Works”) with a group of scholars from different fields as it helped to contextualize our activities for the rest of the day.
The ideas discussed by the organizers and my fellow participants in the workshop were very inspiring and made me think about new ways to enhance the learning experiences of the students in my classes. Among others, the idea of creating an online community of learning for my students is particularly exciting and I now have the technological skills to be able to implement this plan. I also hope to ‘flip’ my classroom to some extent, so that more self-directed learning happens outside of class, allowing for richer and more extensive discussion during class time.
I will certainly recommend this workshop to my colleagues and I look forward to attending more events of this nature organized by FTEP in the future!
