CU in the Rockies

Spend time backpacking and getting to know other incoming students in the Rocky Mountains! The trip also includes an afternoon at our challenge course, a scenic inflatable kayak float, climbing and a peak attempt. No prior experience needed. Come together with the other incoming student trips on the final night at our mountain base for a celebratory feast and other festivities!

Trip Information

More information coming. This trip historically takes begins mid-August and is scheduled to return to campus the last day of move in week. Rockies will begin approximately 8 days out from the last day of move in.

 

    Sample trip itinerary

    Day 1

    Arrive at the CU Recreation Center (1835 Pleasant St.) and check in at the Large Ice Rink Overlook. Meet your trip leader and group members before participating in an afternoon of teambuilding.

    The evening will be spent preparing our gear for the rest of the week and enjoying activities around the Rec. You will then spend an evening under the stars on our rooftop tennis courts with your group.

    Day 2

    Drive to the scenic Colorado headwaters to enjoy a day of rafting. Spend the evening camping under the stars while learning skills that you will be using on the backpacking portion of the trip.

    Day 3–7

    Enjoy backpacking in the Flat Top Mountains of the White River National Forest. During the backpacking portion, you will learn important backcountry skills such as cooking, hiking, dealing with weather and much more!

    Day 8

    Hike out and drive to our mountain base to enjoy a campfire celebration to commemorate everyone's hard work and memories made.

    The above itinerary reflects all the components of CU in the Rockies. The exact order of backpacking, climbing and kayaking may be different for each of the groups.

    Registration Process

    Step 1: Complete an interest form

    Step 2: Once we receive your interest form submission, we will send you an email with registration and payment details (please allow 3-5 business days).

    Note: Payment must be completed to secure a spot on the trip

    Step 3: After registration is confirmed through the participants colorado.edu email:

    1. Submit a Medical Information form - coming soon
    2. Submit an Equipment and Dietary Needs form - coming soon
