CU Boulder Bike News - August 2021

Welcome back to campus! Whether you are a member of staff and faculty or the student body, we are sure that these past couple of weeks have been especially hectic and exciting. Regardless, we feel that there is much to look forward to. 

In this month’s newsletter, you can expect information regarding Bike Fest, the Buffalo Bicycle Classic, electric bikes, bikeway committee, using your bus pass for discounts, and biking tips.

Bike Fest 2021

CU Bike Program News
CU's annual Bike Fest returns this Tuesday! The event will take place on August 31st from 1:00-6:30 pm at Farrand Field. Stop by to enjoy free food, music, games, and the used bike sale!

Buffalo Bicycle Classic 2021

CU Bike Program News
There is still time to register for the Buffalo Bike Classic, which takes place on September 12th. Current registration costs $125, with proceeds providing scholarships for high-merit/high-need students. There are several route options and even a virtual ride. Register now to get involved!

Boulder B-Cycle is Going Fully Electric!

Back in March of this year, B-cycle added 100 electric bikes to its fleet. Now, they are preparing to transition to a fully electric fleet. Additionally, new stations will be added to East, South, Central, and North Boulder. As changes take place, expect some minor hiccups--these bikes will be worth the wait! Read more about this and the introduction of Lime e-scooters on the City’s website.

Commuter Bikeway Committee

Interested in learning about and providing feedback on transit projects? Boulder County is looking for ten residents to form a commuter bikeway committee. The committee will help inform decisions on the CO Highway 119 Bikeway Project, which is slated to begin construction in 2022 or 2023. Click the article title to find the application and more. If you are unable to make a long-term time commitment, but would like to get involved somehow, consider joining the virtual meeting this Monday, August 30th from 5:30pm-7:00pm.

Last month's trivia answer: There were 22 cycling events hosted at the Tokyo Olympics, and those events were split into 5 different disciplines: BMX racing, BMX freestyle, road race, mountain bike, and track cycling. Team USA won 113 medals in total, 3 of which were for cycling events. If you’re still hungry for olympic competition, check out the ongoing Paralympics!
