Mountains are among Earth's most important—and most rapidly changing—environments. They supply freshwater to nearly half of the world’s population, support extraordinary biodiversity, and can reveal the effects of climate change before they become apparent elsewhere. Yet many important questions about these complex high-elevation systems remain unanswered.

The Mountain Research Station provides the facilities, long-term environmental records, and collaborative community that make these discoveries possible. Support from donors enables new investigations by researchers, maintains critical scientific infrastructure, and provides learning opportunities for young environmental scientists.
