Waitlisted for a Class?
Immigration regulations require F-1 and J-1 students to be enrolled in a full-time course load each fall and spring semester in order to maintain nonimmigrant visa status. Full-time enrollment is only required in the summer if it is your first or last semester of enrollment. International students should be sure they understand how a waitlist works and have back-up enrollment that allows them to maintain full-time status in the event they do not move off of a waitlist.
How Waitlists Work
- When an enrolled student drops the class, the first eligible waitlisted student automatically takes their place.
- If you're enrolled from the waitlist, you'll receive an email confirmation within 24 hours.
- If you're retaking the class for grade replacement, submit a grade replacement request form by the posted deadline.
Waitlisting Tips
- Register for a backup class and set up drop if enrolled to ensure you have a full schedule if you aren't enrolled from the waitlist.
- Check your waitlist position to help gauge your likelihood of being enrolled.
- If it doesn't look like you'll be enrolled, consider staying on the waitlist so you can use course reservation in the future.
