Summer Colloquium Boulder Program

The Boulder Summer Colloquium in German Studies is based on a cooperation between the German Programs at the University of Colorado Boulder, Cornell University, and Johns Hopkins University. Started in 2014 and on an annual schedule, the colloquium brings together faculty and graduate students from these programs for a productive and friendly exchange in the beautiful foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Ph.D. students have the opportunity to present their research, and to discuss it with peers and faculty from other institutions in a relaxed workshop atmosphere and during extended hikes and dinners. Since 2016, the Summer Colloquium features a seminar taught by an established scholar in our field whom we invite to join us with two Ph.D. students from his/her own program. As our first guest speaker, we were fortunate to welcome Professor David E. Wellbery who joined us with two of his students from the University of Chicago and offered a fascinating seminar on Goethe's Egmont, Nietzsche's Genealogy, and the genre of the Hollywood Western.
