EVENts this Week! January 28th to February 3rd

Tuesday, January 28th:

Climate & Environmental Emergency: Is There A Way Out?:

12:30-1:30pm @ Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE), W313

Following several national governments all over the world, as one of its first resolutions, the newly elected European Parliament has declared a climate and environmental emergency in Europe and globally. They have called on the European Commission to take decisive action. Immediate and ambitious action is crucial to stop climate change before we reach the point of no return. But currently, not enough is being done to stabilize global temperature rise at well below 2°C (desirably at 1.5 °C) by the end of the century. In this EU Chat, we will talk about the main economic factors driving global climate change, the conflicting interests of different countries in the world, and the interaction between economic growth, globalization, social inequality, and greenhouse gas emissions. We will also look into the possible solutions and the economic and social policies that would be consistent with achieving the targets set out in the Paris Agreement in a politically, economically, and socially sustainable manner.
