CU Engineering Weekly Digest - Jan. 14, 2023

Members of the regular faculty (>=50% FTE) are eligible to be elected to the college’s new Faculty Governance Committee in one of six at-large positions. These faculty do not need to hold voting rights in their home department or program.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18. The college-wide election process and the first committee meeting will be held the following week. Committee members will typically serve a two-year term (January 2023 to January 2025), although membership on the inaugural committee may be staggered to ensure continuity moving forward. Research faculty without service expectations can be compensated for participation on this committee. Self-nominations are allowed.

Broader impacts are a top consideration in evaluating proposals for the most competitive NSF funding opportunities, and related goals for broadening participation are a growing priority across other agencies and sponsors as well. This session will cover key issues and strategies for creating high-impact, high-scoring plans that succeed in an increasingly competitive funding environment. CU Engineering faculty are invited to participate in two upcoming informational workshops to help shape two initiatives for fall 2023's first-year class:

• First-Year Course: Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 3:30–4:30 p.m. in the DLC Collaboratory (DLC 1B70)
• Academic Interest Groups: Wednesday, Feb. 1, from at 3:30–4:30 p.m. in the Clark Conference Room (ECAD 109)

The ASEE 2023 Rocky Mountain Section Conference will be held at the Colorado School of Mines on May 15–17. You are invited to share and present research, works in progress, innovations in curricula or instruction, or other areas of interest to the engineering education community. Paper and session proposals are due Feb. 12.
