Incoming JEDI Fellowship CANCELLED

DUE TO FUNDING ISSUES, THE CHA CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT WE WILL HAVE MONEY FOR DEPARTMENTS TO RECRUIT AN INCOMING GRADUATE STUDENT. WE ARE RELUCTANTLY SUSPENDING THIS FELLOWSHIP UNTIL WE CAN BE ASSURED OF ITS FUNDING IN FUTURE YEARS.

The Incoming Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Graduate Student Fellowship is designed to help departments recruit graduate students whose personal or academic profiles are aligned with the CHA JEDI statement and the CU Boulder’s IDEA plan. 

This fellowship will cover tuition (up to 18 credits per semester), mandatory student fees, health insurance and a stipend equivalent to a 50% Graduate Part-Time Instructor appointment for the first year of graduate study. In addition, students receiving these fellowships will be named Center for Humanities & the Arts Graduate Fellows.

Eligibility

  1. Students must be entering into a master's or doctoral level graduate program
  2. Students must be working in the humanities or arts
  3. Students will be enrolled as a full-time student and will remain in good academic standing as defined by the rules of the Graduate School during the award period
  4. Recipients may not hold another appointment such as a teaching or research assistantship during the fellowship period but may hold a 0% appointment such as a grader or reader. 
  5. Nominating departments must commit to provide further support equivalent to the highest level of TA or GPTI support currently offered by the department following the fellowship year. One-two years (if MFA) of additional support for master’s level students and three years for doctoral students. Continued support is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic performance and progress toward degree.

Selection Criteria

Departments will be selected on the strength of their proposal. The Incoming JEDI Graduate Fellowship was repurposed from the Incoming Graduate Fellowship to aid departments in "diversifying" their units according to the IDEA plan by aiding them in their recruitment of graduate student candidates whose personal and/or academic profiles align with the CHA JEDI statement and the university's IDEA plan

Application Procedure

Departments who wish to apply for a CHA Incoming JEDI Graduate Student Fellowship should submit a proposal of no more than 1-2 pages explaining how their department will recruit and/or select and/or retain a graduate student candidate whose personal or academic profile is aligned with the CHA JEDI statement and CU Boulder’ IDEA plan by the deadline.

If a department receives a CHA Incoming JEDI Graduate Student fellowship, they should submit up to 1-3 names of students who fit the profile of the Incoming JEDI Graduate Student fellowship —in the event that recruitment of their first choice candidate falls through, they can use the fellowship to recruit their second or third choice candidate. This will accomodate the different application timelines of various departments. All graduate student candidates in the department who receive an Incoming JEDI Graduate Student Fellowship must be someone who fits the profile (personal or academic) that the department’s proposal demonstrates will fit into the CHA JEDI statement and the university’s IDEA plan.

Packets should include:

1. A proposal of no more than 1-2 pages explaining how their department will recruit and/or select and/or retain a graduate student candidate whose personal or academic profile is aligned with the CHA JEDI statement and CU Boulder’ IDEA plan. 

2. If a department receives a CHA Incoming JEDI Graduate Student fellowship, submit up to 1-3 names of students who fits the profile of the Incoming JEDI Graduate Student fellowship—in the event that recruitment of their first choice candidate falls through, they can use the fellowship to recruit their second or third choice candidate.

Documents should be combined into a single .pdf and emailed to chagrants@colorado.edu by the deadline.

  • By May 1 of the award year, awarded students should submit a 300-600 word summary of how the fellowship year aided in furthering their dissertation or thesis research. We’d like to know the impact of the award on your research and possibly include quotations on our website or other CHA materials. If you do not want this information shared with anyone outside of the CHA, please indicate that this information is for CHA eyes only. Submit reports to cu-cha@colorado.edu 
  • Acknowledgment of the Center for Humanities & the Arts (CHA) is required on all promotional/published materials for projects funded by the CHA. Use this language for credit: “This project is supported, in part, by a grant from the Center for Humanities & the Arts”
