Scott Cameron

Scott J. Cameron serves as the acting Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Water and Science. In that capacity he oversees the Bureau of Reclamation and US Geological Survey. With a strong background in water resources policy and programs, Cameron has dedicated his career to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of government. He is currently heavily involved in California and Colorado River water resources issues. He previously held various leadership roles at Interior, with particular focus on budget and strategic planning. Cameron works to ensure that Interior's initiatives align with its mission to protect natural resources and support American communities. Earlier in his career, as a staffer to the late US Senator Chic Hecht (R-NV), he was instrumental in passing legislation to create Nevada’s first national park, expand Nevada’s national forests, and make the first use of the Land and Water Conservation Fund to acquire water rights, in that case for Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge. A graduate of Dartmouth College and Cornell University, he is committed to fostering collaboration and innovation within and across federal agencies and the states.
