Kekek Stark

Kekek is an Ojibwe-Anishinaabe (Chippewa) of the Bizhiw (Lynx) Clan from the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and the Manitoba Metis Federation. Kekek is a practitioner of Indigenous law and the Davis – Johnston Associate Professor of Law at the University of Montana Alexander Blewett III School of Law where he serves as the Director and faculty for the Indian Law Program and the Margery Hunter Brown Indian Law Clinic. He is also faculty for the Natural Resources and Environmental Law Program and the Department of Public Administration and Policy. He is a faculty advisor to the American Indian Governance and Policy Institute and the Public Lands and Resources Law Review. He teaches courses in tribal law, federal Indian law, tribal natural resources law, Tribal governance, Tribal sovereignty, treaty rights, Indian Child Welfare, and American Indian diplomacy. Kekek has first-hand experience in training students in how to work productively with Indigenous principles and procedures. He has built institutions grounded in Anishinaabe law and helped students and communities forge better relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous institutions and peoples.
