Consider the limitations of AI

Generative AI and other AI tools are incredible tools that can help you become more efficient, productive, and skillful in your job searches and at work. However, we encourage you to also consider the limitations as you use these new and changing AI tools:

  1. AI is not always accurate. Check the work of any tool you utilize including everything from punctuation and grammar to deeper meanings. Do not use generative AI tools to source information or cite articles, publications, etc.

  1. AI cannot write in your voice. Your authentic writing style will only be apparent if you integrate AI generated content into your own rather than using AI content as a replacement. Remember, anyone can generate a cover letter using AI tools, so it is up to you to make sure you still stand out.

  1. Do not let AI provide all of the interview answers for you. Your capacity to think critically is important and you will not have AI in an interview real-time.

  1. AI systems may not be connected to real-time data and information. Things like company fit, relevant news and more may not come across as you use AI to assist you. Always do your research in addition to what AI provides.

While AI enhances the job search, students should complement its use with personalized strategies to ensure a well-rounded approach.
