Introduction to A&S Academic Coaching

Study Skills for Finals

Preparing for finals can feel overwhelming and stressful. In this workshop, students will create a study plan for finals and learn research-backed methods for the most efficient and effective studying strategies for retention. They’ll also outline a process for incorporating focused study sessions over time. This workshop emphasizes caring for the brain and well-being during the extra pressure of finals season.

Time Awareness and Management

Time is a valuable and limited resource that can be difficult to manage. In this workshop, students will explore methods for being more mindful of how they use their time and strategies for addressing common pitfalls like time blindness and overscheduling. Participants will assess their current habits, allocate their time according to values and priorities, and adapt strategies to maximize wellbeing and productivity.

Study Skills and Strategies

In this workshop, students will learn evidence-based strategies to improve retention and applied learning. Participants gain a stronger foundation for how to work smarter, not just harder, as they examine the effectiveness of their current study methods and make changes to improve their study habits over time. This workshop is a great introduction to study skills that every college student needs for success.

Post-Exam Reflection

Getting exam results can create feelings of stress or anxiety. In this workshop, students will develop meta-cognitive skills to reflect on how they prep for tests and how to improve their test-taking skills. Participants will explore the science behind reviewing previous exams, develop a system to conduct their own post-exam review, and consider how they can apply proven study strategies to boost confidence before an exam.

Values and Goal-Setting

With so many opportunities and competing priorities at CU, it can be hard for students to decide what matters most. This workshop helps students identify their personal values and develop strategies for setting meaningful goals. Participants will create a personalized action plan based on their goals. This workshop is especially helpful for students seeking clarity as they evaluate options and make decisions about the future.

Every skill-building workshop will include a brief introduction to academic coaching and invitation for undergraduate students to sign up if interested in individual sessions.
