Oral Exam FAQ's

No, orals are voluntary, but very much encouraged.

Because they are not mandatory, orals are not graded. So far, however, the research we have conducted has shown a trend in indirectly impacting grades through improved conceptual understanding.

Since orals questions are conceptual in nature, reviewing the content from class notes or the book is strongly encouraged before attending an oral exam. The more you have to contribute to the orals session, the more you will benefit from it. Do not worry if you do not have mastery over all the subjects, though, because the facilitator will do their best to cater to your current level of comprehension. Have an open mind, and be prepared to discuss what you do (or don’t know) with peers and the facilitator.

If you are having trouble with this, send an e-mail to the department systems administrator.
