Abstract:

The High Order Method Modeling Environment (HOMME) is a computational framework to solve the 3D most primitive equations of the global atmospheric circulation model. HOMME is one of the main dynamical cores of the Community Atmospheric Model (CAM), which is the atmospheric component of the Community Climate System Model (CCSM). In HOMME, the primitive equations are solved on the cubed-sphere with a hybrid pressure vertical coordinate system and a numerical discretization based on spectral elements. In this talk, we present an overview of the numerics in HOMME, followed by some details of its parallel computational implementation, which has proven to be highly scalable up to more than sixty thousand processors.
