Abstract:
Numerical weather prediction is not only scientific research but has strong socio impact, such as predictions of hurricanes, tornadoes, drought, and climate changes etc. Good weather prediction saves life and reduces damages to our economy in billions of dollars. However, it is very challenging for accurately predicting severe weather events and climate changes. In this presentation, we focus on several challenging issues related to applied mathematics anticipating collaborations in addressing these issues for improving our prediction. We also introduce some interesting progress toward this direction.
