CU Engineering Employee News & Resources - July 5, 2022

Engineering Staff Council has created a survey to hear feedback from staff about recent hybrid work modalities. The information collected will be used to inform hybrid work policies going forward. Questions and feedback about the survey can be directed to ESC@colorado.edu.

Please join our CEAS Advancement Team for “Pak the Pantry” to gather a variety of items. They are seeking donations for items such as hygiene products, toiletries, baby supplies, detergents, and more. Items that cannot be accepted by the pantry are clothing or other soft goods, partially used items, open containers, feminine hygiene products, and big costco dish soap.

Help fill the pantry shelves of those in need. Stop by the Dean’s Office to drop off your donation by Wednesday, July 13. You can also make an online donation to the Volunteer Resource Center fund.

The University Perspective Program was developed to deepen the leadership capacity of staff on the University of Colorado Boulder campus. The program is sponsored by Organizational and Employee Development (OED) in the Department of Human Resources.​

Applications are being accepted through Friday, July 15, for 2022-23. Participants will gain firsthand knowledge of the university through meetings with senior leaders on the Boulder campus and each of the other three campuses in the CU System and the CU System Office.

Learn what a stay interview is, why managers should be conducting them regularly, and practice conducting an interview. Participants will leave with an action plan of how and when they are going to follow up with their employees. Participants will also generate ideas for putting feedback into action.

This course aims to introduce the mindsets and skillsets necessary for managers and supervisors to successfully transition to leading in a hybrid environment. The research is clear that the foundational principles of leadership have not changed, however the application of these principles must be modified to better suit the environment. This course will connect leaders with the most recent research and practices enabling high levels of employee engagement and workplace productivity.

This course aims to provide individual contributors (IC) with the skills and strategies to take personal responsibility and agency for their workplace needs, accountability and engagement. The hybrid workplace is not only demanding changes from managers and supervisors, but it is also demanding changes from IC. This course will provide the support for IC to make the necessary changes to be successful in the hybrid workplace.

Now Available for 2022-23
In 2021, Engineering Staff Council and College of Engineering and Applied Science Human Resources developed a new process for awarding professional development funds to staff in the CEAS.

Any classified or university staff employed in the college may apply for funding for exam fees, training sessions, workshops, conferences, certification programs or other activities that enhance their professional skills. The request may be directly related to the individual’s current job or may enhance general professional development and should be in alignment with CU Boulder’s strategic emphasis on leadership, innovation and positive impact. Funding of up to $500 per staff member per fiscal year and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A 1:1 or greater cost share is expected from the staff member’s unit.

To say Rachel Sharpe goes above and beyond in everything she does is an understatement. Her commitment, passion and thoughtfulness in representing the mission of the ITLP, college and university comes through in her work with students, faculty and co-workers.  Rachel graduated and started her career with the ITLP during COVID and has been a grounding force to our program ever since.  On behalf of those you have impacted already and those yet to come, thank you Rachel!

Attend a series of workshops offered by the Faculty & Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) over the course of this summer! The FSAP is dedicated to serving the emotional and psychological needs of the campus community. For more information visit the FSAP website.​

Attendees will learn and practice several strategies for cultivating a mindfulness practice in the areas of the body, the emotions, the mind, and relationships. Practices will include mindfulness, meditation, cognitive restructuring, emotional awareness, communication, and movement. Register for this in-person event.
