CU Engineering Employee News & Resources - June 7, 2022

Juneteenth has been a longstanding holiday in parts of the United States, recognizing the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrating the self-determination of Black Americans. Colorado Senate Bill 22-139 declared Juneteenth an official state holiday, following the lead of the federal government which officially recognized the holiday last year.

The university will offer Juneteenth as a floating personal observance day for all leave-eligible faculty and staff.

• Leave-eligible employees will need to request the eight hours of leave (prorated for part-time staff) from their supervisors for use before Dec. 31, 2022. 
• Staff who use My Leave can enter the earnings code “Personal Observance Day” in their My Leave request.

June 14 & June 15
Join CU Boulder Staff Council for a blood drive to save lives and support our community. Every little bit counts in this time of need! The drives will be held on campus at the Student Recreation Center in the Ice Overlook Rooms. Donation forms due Thursday, June 15
CU Boulder employees may donate annual leave hours (not sick leave hours) to the Leave Sharing Program. Send your donation forms to CEASHR@colorado.edu.

Donations are voluntary. The annual leave hours donated may include those hours that would be forfeited because of excess balances at the end of the fiscal year. A leave sharing donation form must be submitted for payroll processing before the June monthly payroll deadline each year. The currentperformance cycle for University Staff, which began early 2021, will be extended to conclude on June 30, 2022. We highly encourage managers to start working with employees on completing self-evaluations and collecting 360 feedback. More information about due dates will be coming shortly!

University Staff

The new university staff performance management cycle is July 1 to June 30 and will be fully implemented for the 2022-23 performance year. The following transition plan is in place:

2021-22: University staff cycle is extended February 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022, with evaluations due to the college mid-August.

Taking into account feedback from staff across the college and after discussing the continuing future-of-work pilot policy with Engineering Staff Council, the college is offering a summer hybrid schedule from May 16 to July 31. This is an extension of the July 10 date previously communicated. We will evaluate this summer hybrid format through supervisor feedback, student feedback and the staff feedback surveys that will be distributed mid-June.

You earn points when you receive recognition from others and when you complete “behavior bonuses.” When you earn enough points for your desired reward, you can redeem them through the Kazoo portal.

Points from this quarter expire on Thursday, June 30, so don’t delay!

Taking a break from work and other regular responsibilities is key to maintaining our overall wellbeing. The past few years have been more challenging than usual, so it’s important for all University of Colorado faculty and staff to make sure they use the vacation leave they’ve earned. It’s even more important to make sure you use enough leave throughout the year to ensure you don’t lose any leave hours.

On Friday, July 29, the annual leave sweep will eliminate any excess leave hours. Make sure you are prepared.

Instructional faculty with the titles of Instructor (Assistant Teaching Professor), Senior Instructor (Associate Teaching Professor), Principal Instructor (Full Teaching Professor), Scholar in Residence or Professor of Engineering Practice appointed in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, who have completed six continuous years (12 semesters) in one of the eligible titles above, at 50% time appointment or greater, will be eligible to apply for a differentiated workload for one semester. The differentiated workload will reduce the formal (course) teaching responsibilities of the instructional faculty to zero for that semester.

For academic year 2022-23, faculty should work with their department chair/program director immediately to discuss the feasibility of using this benefit for spring 2023. In future academic years, the deadline for submission of the CEAS Differentiated Workload Application will be one year in advance of the proposed differentiated workload semester (e.g., August 15, 2022, for fall semester 2023 and January 1, 2023, for spring semester 2024).
