Faculty are shaping the future of sustainability

Sustainability has long been part of CU Boulder's identity, and faculty are at the heart of that work. Across every school and college, researchers, educators and practitioners are advancing solutions to some of society's most pressing environmental, economic and social challenges.

Whether you're conducting groundbreaking research, incorporating sustainability into your curriculum or collaborating across disciplines, there are numerous ways to connect with a growing community of faculty working to advance sustainability at CU Boulder.

From climate science and clean energy to public health, business, law, the arts and the humanities, sustainability is an interdisciplinary strength of the university. Together, faculty are preparing students to lead, generating knowledge that informs policy and practice, and helping position CU Boulder as a global leader in sustainability research and education.

Advance Sustainability Research

Research is one of CU Boulder's greatest strengths, and sustainability research happens in every corner of campus.

The Sustainability Research Initiative (SRI) brings together faculty from across disciplines to foster collaboration, accelerate interdisciplinary research and connect scholars working on complex sustainability challenges. Whether you're developing new partnerships, pursuing funding opportunities or looking to engage with a broader sustainability research community, SRI provides a hub for collaboration and innovation.

Transform Sustainability Education

Preparing students for a rapidly changing world requires sustainability education that reaches every discipline.

The SPIKE Center for Sustainability Education supports faculty in integrating sustainability into teaching, developing innovative curriculum and expanding interdisciplinary learning opportunities across campus. Through faculty programs, grants and professional development, the center is helping ensure every CU Boulder student graduates with sustainability knowledge and skills.

Sustainability challenges require interdisciplinary solutions.

Faculty across CU Boulder regularly collaborate across departments, institutes and centers to advance research, education and campus engagement. Whether you're interested in climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure, environmental justice or community partnerships, there are opportunities to connect with colleagues across campus.

One way to engage is through the Boulder Faculty Assembly's Climate Science and Education Committee, which brings faculty together to discuss emerging issues, share expertise and support sustainability-related priorities at the university.
