- Sharon Murray honored: Sharon Murray, assistant director of the Career Services Health Professions Team, was honored at the American School Health Association (ASHA) with the Distinguished Service Award. The award is based on evidence of long-term service to the field of school health, as well as substantive and consistent service to ASHA. Sharon has served in many leadership roles in ASHA. As president, she skillfully led the organization through a major financial transition so that the organization not only survived, but would be strong and sustainable well into the future. As she does with the Health Professions Team, Sharon led ASHA with courage, strength and discipline.
- Dr. Tom Kunstman is retiring: Dr. Kunstman has dedicated 32 years to making students and their health a priority. Now, after 24 year at CU Boulder, he will retire on January 1. Dr. Kunstman has been the medical director within Medical Services since 2014 and has actively served the campus and surrounding community. While focusing his interests on holistic care, travel medicine and men’s health, he frequently dedicates his time volunteering, networking and attending professional talks or educational events on campus or at the Boulder Community Hospital. October is Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Abuse Awareness Month
Intimate partner abuse/domestic violence happens in all communities, and CU Boulder is not exempt. Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner abuse, is best understood as a pattern of abusive behaviors. These behaviors can include physical, sexual and psychological abuse, as well as economic coercion, and are used by one intimate partner against another to gain, maintain or regain power and control in the relationship. The CU Buffs football game on Oct. 27 will be a domestic violence awarness game to help educate attendees to recognize, respond and reach out. If you are concerned about a friend’s relationship, please contact the Office of Victim Assistance.
