As CU Boulder staff members, we are proud of the standard of excellence our community strives for each and every day. We recognize this standard is not met 100% of the time. We’d like to offer a list of resources that you as a staff member can utilize to help you navigate challenging situations within your space for empowerment and support. 

Employee Resources

  • CU Boulder Ombuds Office - An office that serves as a good place to surface, voice, discuss, and clarify university-related concerns.They offer useful trainings, publish a blog of important strategies for improving communication and interactions, and can meet with you confidentiality to offer an impartial perspective on any university-related concerns you may have. 
  • Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (OIEC) -  Seeks to create and foster a safe, inclusive, and accessible campus environment for all members of the CU community and the general public. OIEC offers a comprehensive and integrated approach for case resolution, education, assessment, support services, and ADA accommodations.  Employing fair and unbiased processes, OIEC treats all individuals who seek our assistance with respect and dignity.
  • CU Boulder Employee Relations - Provides fair and unbiased consultations for employees and supervisors on topics that include leave/FMLA,  performance management, employee discipline, layoffs/separations, and sanctioning. Call (303) 492-6475 to set up an appointment. 

Mental Health Resources

  • Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) - A dedicated resource to serve the emotional and psychological needs of the campus community. All FSAP staff are trained as generalist counselors and are equipped to deal with a wide range of personal and work-related issues. Their mission is to improve the mental health of the University of Colorado Boulder employees and the campus community. 
  • Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) - Provides support services including information, advocacy, and short term counseling, in the aftermath of a traumatic, disturbing, or disruptive life event.
  • SilverCloud Online Mental Health Program - A confidential online portal that offers secure, immediate access to online programs for stress, anxiety and depression. Available for free to all CU Boulder students, staff and faculty. 

Statement on Confidentiality 

It is important to understand confidentiality within the university. Confidential services do not have an obligation to disclose any information provided to them without express permission of the client. If files are maintained, they are completely separate from academic and employment records and cannot be accessed by campus or community systems without the client’s signed authorization.

However, there can always be exceptions to confidentiality policies, as in the case of a life-threatening situation or when harm to a community member is ongoing. Make sure to research and/or ask about confidentiality policies and exceptions before disclosing information to an organization.

While Staff Council cannot counsel or advise you on difficult situations, we do advocate for staff needs and can amplify concerns through the appropriate channels. Please feel free to contact us if you wish to provide feedback about university policies or resources.
