Club of the Year

Women’s Rugby
Women’s Rugby has been steadily building and improving over the past few years. The team’s dedication to being the best they can be on and off the field is apparent. Their hard work and dedication has paid off this year with a bid to play in the USA Rugby College Sevens National Championship in Tucson, Arizona in late May.
Male Athlete

Richie Puls, Crew
Richie is a first-year rower, joining the CU Crew team as a sophomore. He made his way onto the novice record board shortly after joining the team, tried out for the US rowing team, and made a seat for himself in the team’s top varsity boat. His 2k time is 6:38.1 (1:39.5 split) and his 6k 21:17.7 (1:46.5 split).
For those who aren’t familiar with rowing times, let's just say, Richie is FAST.
In addition to his contributions to the Crew team, Richie is a well-rounded student. He is involved in extensive research at the Han Lab as part of the Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology department, serves on the executive board of Timmy Global Health at CU, and is a pre-med Integrative Physiology major. In his free time, Richie plays the double bass in the CU Campus Orchestra.
Most impressively, Richie has been able to balance all of these extracurricular activities while maintaining a near-perfect GPA. We are all excited to see what Richie will accomplish during his next 2 years at CU!
Female Athlete

Christie Burrow, Swim and Dive
Christie is a graduating senior on the CU Swim and Dive team. She has been a part of the team for her entire CU Boulder career. Teammates say that Christie is not only dedicated to the team, but she has become a leading force. This year, she served as the women’s team captain and excelled in every aspect of the job.
Christie has not only been a vital part of the team’s overall chemistry, but she’s an outstanding swimmer as well. During her career, she made it to finals at Nationals in at least one event for three out of her four years on the team. In addition to her individual success, Christie has been a formidable points-winner for the team, helping them to achieve high team rankings. Her coach and teammates agree that Christie embodies Swim and Dive in every way, noting that her presence on the team will be deeply missed.
Sportsman of the Year

Carter Yang, Men’s Hockey
In a year of great divide between D1 and D2 Men's Hockey teams, Carter, a sophomore, has been a key factor in bringing the two teams together as one unit.
He has brought unparalleled positivity to both teams throughout the year, and we look forward to seeing how he will help these teams transform in the years to come!
Coach of the Year

Tricia Furlong, Swim and Dive
Tricia is in her second stint coaching the Swim and Dive team here at CU. Though they represent one of the smaller Sport Clubs on campus, the Swim and Dive team has made great strides and recently finished second at nationals. Tricia has embodied the Sport Club vision and has been a joy to work with in the Sport Club office. We know that Tricia will continue to grow the team and contend for a national championship in the coming years.
