Biography

Steve Dinauer joined the PLC team in 2013 after a 27-year career in the US Marine Corps, the last stop of which was here at CU Boulder’s Naval ROTC program as the Commanding Officer and Professor of Naval Science.  An infantry officer by trade, he held a variety of command and staff billets. He led infantry and light armored reconnaissance units from the platoon to battalion levels, to include command during two combat tours.  He also oversaw the operations and the school for the program that provides highly trained Marines to the Department of State for embassy security, and was the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton’s Director of Security and Emergency Services.  Steve served twice in the Pentagon first with the Joint Staff in support of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and later on the staff within the Office of the Secretary of Defense as a strategic planner and as the Senior Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict. A Wisconsin native, Steve earned his BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in International Relations, and his MA in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
