The Global Issues in Leadership Class Advisor (CA) is a member of the larger Academic Team and reports directly to the course professor - Dr. Shepherd Macklin

Candidates for this position must:

  • Have strong organizational skills
  • Have a strong desire to interact with guest speakers and members of the external community as one-third of the course content is provided by guest speakers. 
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent oral presentation skills
  • Be able to provide guidance for student teams presenting high-stakes oral presentations

Leadership skill development for this CA will focus on:

  • Providing the CA with the opportunity to critically examine one's strengths and weaknesses in motivating others to accomplish a defined goal
  • Facilitating team bonding to maximize team performance
  • Understanding how the performance of others in a workgroup and how to use that assessment to positively influence others' behavior

Global Spring CA Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the professor to implement a course syllabus, coordinate guest speakers, tracking participation in class, and recommending student participation/engagement grades (1 hour/week)
  • Meeting weekly with the course instructor for training purposes (.5 hour/week)
  • Attending all scheduled lectures  (3 hours/week)
  • Serving as an advisor for students in the course, assisting with class activities, assignment mentoring, and providing feedback on student rehearsal of oral presentations prior to the actual class presentation  (1 hour/week)
  • Meeting with students on an individual basis periodically, as needed, by appointment for CA Office Hours (1 hour/week)
  • Other duties as assigned, including staff support for orientation activities, off-campus programs
