Multi-Level Class Advisors (CA) are members of the larger Academic Team and report directly to the course professor.

Candidates for this position must be strong writers interested in learning how to build strong teams (recitation sections) of individuals, each of whom is working independently and yet is also working as a team to provide individual feedback.  Students will be trained to provide supplemental instruction in the field of writing.  

Leadership skill development for the CA will focus on:

  • Providing each CA with the opportunity to critically examine one's strengths and weaknesses in motivating others to accomplish a defined goal
  • Facilitating team bonding to maximize team performance
  • Understanding how to assess the performance of others in a workgroup and how to use that assessment to positively influence others' behavior

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Facilitation of weekly peer-editing writing workshops and discussion-based recitations and recommendation of student engagement/participation scores each week (2 hours a week contact time)
  • Attending all class lectures (3 hours/week)
  • Holding weekly CA drop-in office hours or meeting with students on an individual basis as needed and appropriate (1.5 hours/week)
  • Assisting professional staff and faculty with PLC Community Events (~1 hour/week across the course of the semester)
  • Providing supplemental instruction and written feedback on student assignments for assigned recitation/workshop group prior to student submission of those assignments to the instructor for grading (~4.5 hours/week)
  • Weekly individual or team supplemental instruction training meeting with the instructor (1 hour/week)
  • Other duties as assigned, including student staff support
